31. Splitting the Prize Money
Three brothers decide to split prize money of $770 in proportion to their ages. For every $4 that Tom gets, Dick gets $3 and for every $6 given to Tom, $7 goes to Harry.
How much does each get?
Scroll down the page for the answer.
Tom is the common factor here. If Tom gets $12 then Dick gets $9 and Harry $14.
so a sum of $35 would be split in the ratio 12:9:14
so $770 (=22x35) is split 22x12:22x9:22x14
so Tom gets $264
